Axel Weimann
Specialist Attorney for Criminal Law
Quintilian, about 30-96 A.D.
Following his grandfather, father and uncle, who all worked in the Berlin criminal justice system either as a criminal lawyer, public prosecutor or judge, Axel Weimann decided early on in favour of criminal law and has been working exclusively in the field of criminal defense since he was admitted to the bar in 1992. After first joint years in a law firm specializing in criminal law and employment law, Axel Weimann and Dr. Peter Meyer together founded their law firm in 1997.
In 1998 Axel Weimann has been appointed certified attorney for criminal law. From Day One he has worked in almost all areas of criminal law. Already in the year of his admission to the bar he took over the defense in a high crime jury trial, the case about the murder of Berlin red light great “Chinesen-Kalle”, which ended in 1997 with an acquittal in the appeal proceedings – and more followed. The impressions he gained as a defender in historical proceedings such as the so-called “Mauerschützen trials” (shooting of civilians by East-german border patrols at the Berlin Wall) and the trials surrounding the “GDR doping in sports” as well as the alleged blackmailing of people who wanted to leave the GDR against East Berlin lawyer Wolfgang Vogel, among others will remain unforgettable to him.
For many years, Axel Weimann’s defense and consulting activities have focused primarily on medical criminal law and commercial criminal law with all its sub-areas. He represents doctors against allegations of negligent homicide or personal injury in so-called “malpractice lawsuits” as well as in proceedings for so-called accounting fraud. For almost fifteen years Axel Weimann was the defender of a former bank board member in two proceedings concerning the so-called “Berlin bank scandal”. Whereas in the so-called “AUBIS proceedings”, the initial sentence to a suspended sentence had to be revoked as unconstitutional by the Federal Constitutional Court following a constitutional complaint and the proceedings were then discontinued without a new hearing, the so-called “fund proceedings” could be concluded with an acquittal.
Axel Weimann represents people from a wide variety of provenience, backgrounds and professions in almost all other areas of criminal law. From the activities of recent years, the defense of one of the twins, against whom the Berlin “KaDeWe burglary” had been investigated, the defense of “Onur U.” in the “Jonny K.” case, the defense of “Mario K.” in the so-called “Maskenmann Trial” and the defense of a juvenile defendant accused of killing his 14-year-old classmate “Keira G.” should be emphasized.
He is currently defending one of the former board members of the Kassenärztliche Vereinigung Berlin (Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians) in a trial on charges of embezzlement and he has been also engaged in the “Diesel Defeat Device”-Complex.
Axel Weimann was born in Berlin on February 10, 1963. After graduating from high school in 1981, he studied law at the Freie Universität Berlin and made his first and second bar exam in Berlin.
From 2001 until 2021 Axel Weimann was a member of the board of the Berlin Bar Association.
Axel Weimann is a member of the Vereinigung Berliner Strafverteidiger e.V., the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Strafrecht des Deutschen Anwaltverein and the Berliner Anwaltsverein.
As author Axel Weimann is responsible for the criminal law section of Stellpflug/Meier/Tadayon’s “Handbuch Medizinrecht” and has also lectured on the same topic in the specialist course for medical law at Arber-Verlag.
Since many years he is recommended in the FOCUS “Top Defense Attorneys List”.
